解決したい社会問題
みんなのコードは、全国でテクノロジー教育の普及活動を推進する非営利活動法人です。
2020年度より、小中高すべての学校教育段階でプログラミング教育が必修・拡充されましたが、学校で学んだ以上の体験を放課後の時間を使って、デジタル機器に触れられるかは、家庭環境によって制限されてしまうことが多々あります。
例えば、首都圏では民間のプログラミング教室が多くありますが、地方ではまだ少ないことに加え、民間の教室に通いたいと思っても、経済的に豊かでないと通えません。
また、家にコンピュータがある家庭とスマートフォンしかない家庭では、“体験の格差”が生まれています。
Code for Everyone is a non-profit organisation that promotes technology education nationwide. Programming education has been made compulsory and expanded at all levels of schooling in elementary, junior high, and high schools since 2020, but whether students can use their after-school time to experience more than they learn at school and access digital devices is often limited by their home environment. For example, while there are many private programming classes in the Tokyo metropolitan area, these are still scarce in rural areas, and even if children want to attend private classes, they must be financially well-off to do so. There is also a gap in experience between families with computers at home and those with only smartphones.
その問題を解決するためのアイデアやアプローチ方法
テクノロジー教育は地域格差また経済格差により“体験の格差”が生じやすいと考えています。
私たちが目指す「すべての子どもが“デジタルを活用し、表現する権利”が保障される社会」の実現には、子供がどんな状況下においても学ぶことができる教育拠点の拡充が必要です。
みんなのコードは、10代の子供たちが無料でデジタル機器を活用し表現することのできる、学校でもなく家庭でもない第三の居場所を、現在2地域・3拠点で展開しています。
We believe that technology education is prone to gaps in experience due to regional and economic disparities. In order to realise our goal of a society in which every child is guaranteed the right to use and express themselves digitally, it is necessary to expand the number of educational centres where children can learn under any circumstance. Code for Everyone is currently developing three third-party locations in two regions, that is, places that are neither at school nor at home, where teenagers can use digital devices and express themselves free of charge.
プロジェクトを進行している上で直面している課題や困難
課題としては、大きく2つあります。
1つ目は、多くの人々が「テクノロジー教育の発展には学校外の教育拠点が有効である」という認識を持っていない点です。
学校外からアプローチする意義や社会的インパクトを明らかにし、社会に示し、第三の居場所を全国に広めていきたいと考えています。
2つ目に、現在第三の居場所を展開している地方では、公共の交通機関が発展しておらず、保護者に車で送り迎えをしてもらう子供がほとんどであるという課題です。
子供たちが通いたいと思った時に気軽に通う手段を作ることで、近隣の子供たちだけでなく、少し離れた市町村の子供たちにも通ってもらうことで、市町村の枠を超えた広域連携を考えています。
Our challenges are mainly the two of followings:
First, many people are not aware of the effectiveness of out-of-school educational centers for the development of technology education. We would like to clarify the significance and social impact of the out-of-school approach, show it to society, and spread third-party locations of residence throughout the country.
Second, in the rural areas where we are currently developing third-party locations, public transportation is not well developed, and most children are driven to and from school by their parents, which is a challenge. By creating a means for children to easily commute when they want to, we are considering a wide-area collaboration that transcends the boundaries of municipalities by encouraging not only children in the neighbourhood but also those in cities, towns and villages a little further away to attend.
